Hey everyone! I decided to join the Permanoobs train, finally.

24/7-2014

For starters, my name is William. I live in Sweden, and this fall I'll be beginning my second year in art school. I'm still hanging out a bit on ConceptArt, but i'm not really impressed by what it has turned into. PMN has this typical forum sketchbook style that CA once had, which is great. Also this site seems to have a lot of good old conceptarters. So yeah, will be hanging out here as well! :)

Cheers!

daaang, you're good. I'm guessing you're a veteran of having a sketchbook like this?

Your color handling skills are fantastic, lots of different moods in those landscapes. My only critique in what you've shown is sometimes they can be a tiny tiny bit flat? (aka the 'virtual pein air one' feels a little plain in comparison to your 'the hills have eyes' one, which has a much bigger emphasis on mood and depth.) Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm just nitpicking (and am n00b level in comparison to your skills, ahaha).

Can't wait to see more from you.

@ Dunamiter0ll - Hehe, thanks! Glad you like it! ^ ^

@ krad-eelav - A veteran? Other than permanoobs I'm just a noobiiie at conceptart with a 2½ year old Sketchbook. I'm super inspired by the asian concept artists, HGJ, Ruan Jia, Bumskee, Ham sung-choul, the list goes on and on. Thanks for the crit, yeah I attempted some more "realistic" feel to the plein air, so it's a bit cooler I guess. Oh and yes, things look flat... xD My sense of form is pretty bad, and I'm pretty sucky at perspective as well. Thanks for pointing that out btw, gives me motivation!

@ Tilune - Thank you! :) Glad you like them hihi!

@ Luna - Ohooo thanks Luna! I'm so glad I can be of some sort of inspiration haha, the thought really flatters me. xD One day you will be as 'good' as me, and another day you'll be better! Hard work and dedication guuurl! This whole C**T controversy is super fun haha

@ Buxu - HAHAHA well NEITHER CAN I? It was hilarious anyway! Thanksies bushu!

@ ErnieTheMighty - Thanks! :D My room was kinda dark so I didn't want to increase the contrast , but you're right. Sometimes I'm so scared of pushing my values haha.

Okay, so me and Buxu had a little challenge to motivate ourselves and just do something. Topic was Firelands, and it was supposed to be an environment with a character in it. Obviously I never did my character buuuuuuuuuut yeah. ME FAILZ haha.

that is not correct, ypu still have until 31 remember, if in 31 you did not put the character then you will fail :)
the pallete look good but feels like it needs a punch somewhere, feels like you have the right place for something to happen, a dragon or something would be cool too yeah? i was thinking in put animal insted of humans.

Nice firelands! Is the very front that bit can be darker?--> I only can say without drawing so nice! @_@
I like the idea that Buxu said, but if it's me I would put phoenix in there and traped and trying to escape!
Good job, Uir! I now feeling I really need to get time to Actually sitting do something! x

@ Buxu - Oh I didn't know that! Thanks for reminding me! Yeah a dragon would be cool, just not sure how i'll be able to pull that off and not completely destroy the composition. Been thinking about some molten spider as well, that'd be cool. Crawling molten spiderlings!!! :D

@ Luna - Thanksies! I made the front a bit darker, helped it out a bit I think. Glad you like it haha! Now off with you and make an awesome story painting! :D

@ Alexander Lidström - Thanks mate! :) Currently I'm attending Lunnevads Folkhögskola which is just outside Linköping. I like it! One year left to go! I saw on your sketchbook that you attend atelier stockholm - SO jealous!! Thinking of applying there next year and start my real academic studies... If I can find some way to finance it haha. Win all the scholarships! Been stalking some people from atelier stockholm and i've been such a fan boy haha...

@ ErnieTheMighty - I don't know. You might die a horrible death by doing so. Would look pretty darn devastating. You're not terminator, are you? Thanks btw! Glad you like it! :D

Okay so just a quick update on the firelands, no real focal point, meh. I'm actually surprised that I'm able to flesh out more and more. It's still pretty suggestive, but I feel like the more I push myself, the better i get. #Captain_obvious! ^__^ Also I wanted to reply to you all, you're all too kind!

Ooohhh deeewd it's awesome to see familiar faces around! (I've been mostly lurking on ca thou)
The self portrait and the last environment are really cool! This whole sb is cool, but those 2 stand out to me. Nothing actually constructive to say.
See ya.

Really like the subtle saturation and hue shifts inside the lava painting! For a focal point, I feel like something very high contrast will add to the piece because of the overall darkness/mood. Either way it's just a suggestion, I'm excited to see what you come up with! And is the thing you're doing like a site-wide event or just a personal challenge? I want to start joining in on the CHOW/COWs and stuff but they don't seem to be active here anymore.

Pretty cool hue variability, espessially in the last one. You should introduce a character in that scene and maybe add some super close foregroud elements. Or maybe put some kind of building that pouring lava.

hey man, good start on your sketchbook. you handle the form pretty good in your portrait. you have great lighting sense too. for <our landscapes, i can see you use a lot of "concept-artish" shapes. im sure you can make it better by making a lot of vislib studies of landscapes.

For this week character challenge your "firelands" really gave me a nice idea of "Lava in the hell" -->@_@ But your lave is much nicer than the Lava in the hell!!! ~●▽●
Keep working hard, dear Uiriamu!

@ ErnieTheMighty - No focal point :( Haha a hot air baloon would be funky!

@ Thewalkingbar - Yay familiar faces! You're hanging out over at concept art as well?! I'll find you!! Thanks mate, glad you like them!

@ StressCavity - Hiyas! Thank you! Hue variations is always fun and exciting. Thanks for the crit, I kind of agree on some level. I decided to leave the painting, I never came around to actually do something on it. The thing me and Buxu is doing was just for fun, something that would push us one extra yard. Do they have CHOWS and COWS here at permanoobs? Worth checking out if so!

@ GreenArt - I'm glad that shows at some level! Thank you! :D

@ Pav327 - Thank you Pav! I've been getting loads of crits and it's super awesome. I have been a bad boy though and left that painting haha. Something pouring lava would be cool yeah. Could've added some kind of movement to it, giving it some story.

@ Hai - Hiyas! :) Thanks! Yes the landscapes are very conceptartish and suggestive, and it would be a very good thing to study to improve my visual library. Thanks for the crit!!!

@ Luna - Glad you like it!! :D And no worries about the encouragement haha, that's what the whole artist community is for! I think I could use some right now actually haha! You too keep working hard. ^^

@ Buxu - No spiderlings... And no molten giant. And no dragon. And nothing pouring lava. :( I wish I could go on artsy adventures outside in the summer with artsy friends, but at the moment there's no super artsy friend where I live... Most of the people at my school is living in total different places, and most of them is pretty modern and doesn't really feel the need of studying. xD

Okay, I have been having a break from painting now for like 2 weeks. In one way it has been great, but the reason I haven't painted or done anything has been because I stumbled upon some art block. The good thing about this was that I gave myself the chance and permission to meet up with friends and get socialized. I've been spending the major time of this summer break inside painting, sketching and isolating myself so at some level it was a good thing I ran into that art block. Hopefully I can come back now and get over this art block and proceed with creating stuff!

You are all very encouraging, thanks for all your nice words!

Welcome back! It's been a while :y That study is tight man, looooove the brush strokes and the color choice. Too bad the lava thing couldn't get finished, but I know how it feels when you just want to move on and do something else. Hope you found your motivation again and keep it up!

Hey dude, thanks for commenting on my SB! I remember you from CA as well, I really like what you're up to. Though I remember a comment from Blackspot along the lines of 'are you only going to post sketches and never fully render anything? Is this just a hobby'? Hmm well I found that a little insulting. What exactly is she suggesting? I'm in the same boat as you, we can be bro's. I don't often do full renders but I have still learned a ton and improved so much over a year and a half! There are many paths to our goals.

Anyway, the Zhaoming study is gorgeous, might try it myself. Really nice brushwork. I also really liked the self portrait, you really captured character in it. Hope you keep posting!
