All you can Draw by Valle

Postby VainX5 » Thu Aug 18, 2016 8:49 am

Hey boys and girls,

my name is Valle, I am 21 and i draw for about 6 month. I come from Germany and i wanna became a Illlustrator.. It is my dream, I am still a bad painter but I hope i will improve. :)
Maybe you can help me to improve with critic and tipps.. my english is not the best but I understand nearly everything :D .. I draw with pencil, acryl and digital. It is hard for me to uploade traditional Art, but I will do soon :) ... I hope I can uplade as often as possible.
Have a nice day guys :)

So with my first 2 studys today, I wanna focus on black/white and clothes

Glad to have you on Permanoobs and tis a nice start to a sketchbook ^_^ not the best at giving critique but I defiantly think you should give the lasso tool a shot for your still lifes, plus you should maybe try using a %50 opacity soft brush to smooth some areas in your skin tones. technically these might create a look you don't quite like but always worth a shot ^_^

anyway good luck on you permanoob journey ;3

@crowbit thanks for the comment and tipps :3 .. Yeah, lasso tool is a gread idea, i should use it more often ... I liked the style of this peace with skin, but you right, I give the soft Brush a try :P ...

So this time I did some landscape study, Fun Orc Study and some other stuff, and my first "face" frome imagination, i failed hard xd .. Should do more face studys ...

I paint in Grayscale first and then color... It is very hard for me to find out how dark or bright the grey is.. How do I know this when I paint from Imagination? Any tipps? :) ...

thanks to you all folks!

Hey, very nice sketchbook! You should pay more attention to edges, defining better what is a hard and what is a soft edge. I also think you could benefit a lot from studies of the anatomy of the head. I really like that orc painting (i never know the names of blizzard's characters :x), but in my opinion his skin should be a bit warmer/more red. Keep posting, really wanna see more of your stuff!

@ caiowcxs thank you :) .. great tipp, I never thought about edges :). I spent some time on Loomis head, hope it Helps :)

I made a new still life.. 1 hour for this. But I am not sure if all the values are right.
I did it from a photo on the internet, how can i check values in ps? Should i only change the colored photo in black and white or are the values not right there?
Image

kind of a color study

Image

So my main issues are in Value... should my main focus be on Still life paintin in black and white then? Or what kind of exercise do you think guys? :)

thanks :)

Hello there! You can basically find all you need to improve on ctrl + paint - values, brushwork, perspective - looots of things. I suggest you be patient and start with the first lessons that are in traditional and also focus on the fundamentals and the construction of things. Pretty much no matter how well you rendered that scull you painted (for example), it would never look convincing because you didn't apply perspective to it; the construction is not convincing.
When you have a stronger understanding of the fundamentals everything is going to happen much easier. Thought I have to say your figure studies are quite well done! Also if you add a link to the photo from the still life I'll try to help you out with how the values should be, even though I can kinda picture it now.
Should i only change the colored photo in black and white or are the values not right there?
Perhaps in the beginning you should start by studying b/w images and later on progress into value studies of colored images. Anyways later!

@Thewalkingbar.. nice, thank you for the link :)
so I will do more still life..
Sometimes I have the feeling that I am not learning enough from the studys. I think I have to look closer :P

I did 3 still life. The last one takes me the most time, about 1 houre ...
Should I spent more time on my stuff? After blocking the colour it feels sometimes that I learn nothing more.

Hey there! I am a bit late to comment on your sb but I'll do it anyway. I really like your value still life studies. Really nice representation of the different surfaces. Your colored pieces look a bit muddy but since i have the same problem too i can't really help you with it maybe try more saturated colors..? I am very excited to see more and btw I am from Germany too, so yay!

Hey Valle nice work, keep going.

I have a few ideas on improvement for you. Try and unify your values a bit more and treat them as just shapes. Resist the temptation of detailing too much because you risk messing up the value separation. Squinting helps with this. You probably do this already but try and use big brush size when you rough in and decrease gradually. The more you can do with the bigger brush the better.

An exercise to help you ease into color is to match colors on references. Try some Disney or Miyazaki screen caps, they are great for this purpose. Zoom in an area and match the color until it 'disappears'. It's quite a fun thing to do.

Some great improvement here Valle. Still life studies are certainly showing signs of great refinement. Might be useful to get some sketching done, in particular, some character and anatomy poses to get the core fundamentals down. But keep it up man, great to see.
