Chazillah – Thanks for the encouragement. :) I’ll get there eventually, hopefully.

Nowhere near enough today, didn’t manage time well at all D:

Time management comes with practice, it's a lifetime skill...
just get back on the horse, try to find ways to solve recurring isseus

i.e, if you're easily distracted by your phone or internet, you can get apps that block distracting phone apps (offtime). there are internet applications that block social media websites etc (stayfocusd, wastenotime)

or if it's just an "I have too much to do" sort of thing, make sure you're prioritizing and doing the most important things first . if you can establish a regular morning routine it really helps (for me, it's making sure i get exercise done first, then to get to my art stuff right away before i go to work. i have my internet/phone mostly blocked during those hours)

you'll get it . you're smart and you know you need hours and hours of focus and that's really the hardest thing to tackle

keep going

It’s a mixture of both, really. Although the past couple of days I’ve been doing a lot better with not procrastinating. I’m trying to get into a good morning routine on my days before work; I just have to get into the habit of waking up about an hour earlier than I am now. But, yeah I’ll get it eventually :) thanks.
Here are a couple bits from today and yesterday, I’ll post the next accuracy either tomorrow or Tuesday because the colours are currently really off.

those hampton studies are great

keep it up Sophie. the faces are better than they were, but double-check your values
your forms are suffering a little but placement is a lot better

(i.e, when you're done, see if you got the lights and darks right)

sophie, i hope your alarm clock blares in a particularly annoying way tomorrow and it promotes a state of semi wakefulness, and you make your way over to what ever you draw on and then you make some marks

after that ordeal, feel free to either draw more or fall back asleep.

and don't forget to eat breakfast too, if your hungry that is.

keep working hard Sophie!

her limbs are really funny: download/file.php?id=56703

hmm. i wonder if you're having troubles with how structure works for your figures? can you take a photo of someone in that same pose and try to analyze where you're going wrong? the feet especially aren't working

how long are you spending on the studies? can you try doing one longer (2+ hrs) one in a sitting? i feel like you might learn more by slowing down a bit, try to care less about the output (i know that's hard)

Chazillah – yeah, I’d say I have some structure issues. I need to take more time on them I guess. I had a look at some ref for that pose and attempted to alter it. By a two 2+ hour study what sort of thing are you referring to? Thanks for the advice, again! I definitely appreciate it.

Calling the accuracy piece done, I think. I’ve trying to fix it but I’m struggling. Otherwise, just some messy anatomy. It’s my birthday tomorrow so I’m not sure I’ll get much, if anything, done. So we’ll see :)

Heello! A little bit of anatomy from today. This week hasn’t been productive art-wise at all due to work, illness and general holiday season things, but that’s okay because I should have a lot of time next week. :)

Nice stuff Sophie!! I love all the work you're doing on anatomy, keep it up :) If at some point you need a break from that, it looks like you could benefit from reading up on color theory. A lot of the neutral tones are off in those color studies, making everything look kinda greyish. Do you have Color and Light by James Gurney? I know everybody recommends it, but I'm going to do it again haha :) Another helpful thing to do is try and match just a few individual colors from photos/master paintings instead of doing an entire study, to get you really focusing on the colors. It takes less time than painting the whole thing, and you don't have to worry about drawing, blending, and edges. Hope that helps, keep up the cool work!

Chazillah – thanks :)
Caseylarae – hey, thanks! I do have that book actually, but I’ve struggled a bit with applying it. I’ll have to get back to it again because I know my colours aren’t great. I will try doing studies like that because my current ones are taking so long! Thanks for the advice.

Hello, back to drawing after Christmas. I slacked off pretty bad D:

Alberto_ - hey, thanks :) Honestly it really does vary; I aim for 4 hours as a minimum. But there are days when I can get 6+ and days where I can only manage an hour.

Heello. Here are some bits from the past few days; I’m trying to aim to do at least one ‘illustration’ a month so I am forced to fight my weaknesses. For example this month has already shown me that I really struggle with environment painting and drawing creatures! Hopefully I can keep this up and there will be some real improvement by the end if the year.

Oh boy, I've come back after Christmas to find out everyone's been kicking so much ass! There's so much improvement here, I really enjoyed scrolling through. You're hitting pretty much everything you need to - nice to see you hammering anatomy and mixing it in with stuff from imagination, you got a real good balance going on.
I can't think of anything to crit that you aren't already doing or hasn't already been said. Just don't lose that momentum, I know it's frustrating when you don't have much time but you just have to keep trying to find what works for you and helps maximise your time and focus best - and keep that drive to improve, most importantly! Also, no-opacity studies are so much hard work at first, kudos for hammering your way through some!

Hey guys, I wanted to make a quick post because I may be absent for a while. Due to personal issues I'm not going to have proper computer access for a while and even normal drawing will be hard for the time being. I have really enjoyed myself here and hopefully if I'm able to find somewhere I'll be back sooner rather than later. :)

Ink-insomnia – lol I definitely lost the momentum, back on it now, though. I swear! Thanks.
Sagittarius-A-star – Hey, thanks! Hopefully I haven’t completely lost the ability to draw :o
Alberto_ - Hey, hopefully back to posting now! :)
Aestechnics – I think I’ll be able to start posting frequently again now.
FISH - <3

Hello, guys! Long-time no post. I’m hopefully back to posting regularly again now, at least once a week. I won’t bore you guys with details but I had a bit of a life upheaval but it’s all settled down now. :) I don’t have as much time to draw as I did now, but I’m hoping to do as much as I can! I’m actually going to university in September :O I’ll admit I’ve done barely any drawing in the past couple months but I’m hoping that changes now.

Nice work. The proportions feel a bit off ie the arms too short. For the last piece I would really tone down the detail in the grass and force even more atmospheric fog/perspective in the grass farther away. That would improve depth and clarity. It would also improve the values since the dark grass is mixing with her legs/skirt. You can also show more form on the tree.

It's good to have you back nonetheless. And very cool to see a side by side comparison of how you've improved over the year.

I think you might want to consider be a little more careful with the forms of your heads, though. The most recent one isn't feeling like she has much in the way of a skull, it's a bit too cut off at the back.

Haha I'm on 11 pages, too. Slowley catching up to you lovely bastards.

There are some really nice improvements in yóur personal piece:

The big stuff: -The facial structure is much more defined and has less constuction issues.
-The pose while still having issues feels a lot more natural
-The lighting also got a lot better, The flame is actually casting a warm light on the whole figure
-The composition: The figures doen't take up the whole space which made the original feel really crammed. Now the picture has much more
space to breath

Issues: -There is still some stiffness and some anatomy issues but these will onyl go away with practise and time. Keep on doing personal pieces and
you'll see yourself getting more and more confident with posing figures
-Muddy colors. Also something that just takes time and observation.

Anyway. Keep it goin.
